Loretta Lynn Thought Willie Nelson Was “Handsome” When They First Met

On top of being two of country’s biggest stars, Loretta Lynn and Willie Nelson were also close friends. Their friendship spanned over the course of decades, and the two of them paired up for a duet on Lynn’s Full Circle album, called “Lay Me Down.”
Since Lynn and Nelson’s friendship was so well-documented, many have wondered how these two country legends first met. Lynn was more than happy to share the story of their first meeting during an interview in promotion of Full Circle.
When Loretta Met Willie
Lynn said she met Nelson when she first came to Nashville, and they ended up doing a few shows together. For Lynn, that first meeting left her feeling a bit starstruck.
“I thought he was one of the most handsomest men I’ve ever seen,” she said with a smile.
Now, we’re used to seeing Nelson with his beard and signature long braids. But back when Lynn met him for the first time, Nelson was clean-shaven with short hair, and he wore a business suit. Although Nelson looks quite different now than he did when Lynn met him, she loved him either way.
“He was a handsome guy. Well, he’s still handsome!” she said. “I love Willie. I don’t care if he’s got hair clear down to the floor.“
