Just as country music powerhouse Love and Theft were wrapping up their forthcoming album, something incredible happened. After noticing the current state of society has many Americans feeling anxious, talented songwriters Stephen Barker Liles and Eric Gunderson decided to tackle the difficult subject head on through their powerful new song, “Love Wins”.
With each passing verse of the inspirational ballad, a different aspect of the multidimensional song is unveiled. Within the span of three verses, “Love Wins” shares the story of a person “on the edge” of their life in need of a savior, a couple who find their way back in love from the brink of divorce, and the immense need to love your neighbor for betterment of the world.
“We just wrote this song four weeks ago and to see the life and energy it has taken in that short time…is unlike anything I’ve been a part of in my 11 years here in Nashville,” said Liles regarding their new song. “We are excited to put out ‘Love Wins’ because of how much it means to us and our families and because we hope this song will have a lasting impact on the hearts of everyone who hears it.”
The country singer shared the ultimate intention behind the song is a reminder to be “better dads, better husbands, and just better humans.” So how does the powerful ballad relate to the country singer’s lives?
“I have struggled with alcoholism for the majority of my adult life,” said Gunderson in reference to how “Love Wins” applies to his life. “I will have been sober for two years in a couple of weeks. If it weren’t for the love that my friends and family have shown me, I’m not sure that I would still be here! Love really does win. “
The talented duo teamed up with fellow songwriters Tyler Cain and Jason Blaine for the song following a conversation about the “on edge” feeling that has overtaken society. After the initial writing process had taken place, Liles and Gunderson shared their masterpiece with the host of satellite radio show The Highway, Storme Warren. The radio host immediately fell in love with the song, so much so he threatened to play the demo on his show if they didn’t immediately head into the recording studio. And the rest, as they say, is history.
