True Love Can Be Found In Trace Adkins’ ‘There’s A Girl In Texas”

Trace Adkins Vevo

It’s hard to imagine a time that Trace Adkins wasn’t the major country star he is today. But back in 1996, Adkins had just released his debut album, Dreamin’ Out Loud. From the get-go Adkins found himself in the center of the country music spotlight, largely due to the success of his debut single, “There’s a Girl in Texas.”

Co-written by Adkins and Vip Vipperman, “There’s a Girl in Texas” is from the view of a man who left home to chase his dream of becoming a country music singer. As he heads off to Nashville, he finds himself missing the home and the girl he left behind.

The message of the song is strengthened through the music video, which shows Adkins’ character leaving his girl in Texas while he drives to Nashville to pursue his singing career. Night after night he plays in a little dive bar, and he starts to feel like his dream isn’t quite what he hoped for. Then he sings, “Not sure I know who I am anymore… but/There’s a girl in Texas…that does.

Despite being homesick and in need of some company, the narrator doesn’t turn to a girl who expresses interest in him at the bar. Instead, he stays true to his girl back home, as he remembers that no one else can own his heart but her. Since she is the one with his heart, that is where he knows his home will always be.

The success Adkins experienced following the release of “There’s a Girl in Texas” has only continued to build over the years, making him one of the biggest stars in country music today. You can check out the music video for the song that started it all for Adkins below.
