Lynn Anderson Covers Elvis’ Lovelorn Song “Heartbreak Hotel”

As one of Elvis Presley’s most recognizable songs, “Heartbreak Hotel” has been covered by many artists in multiple genres. However, one unexpected cover performance came from Grammy Award-winning country artist Lynn Anderson.

When Anderson once appeared on a television show, the host played a clip that showed her singing “Heartbreak Hotel.” At the time of Lynn’s appearance, the performance clip was nine years old.

Presley released “Heartbreak Hotel” in 1956. It soared up the charts and held the top spot on the Billboard Top 100 for seven weeks.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame later included the song in its list of 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll.

Many artists have covered “Heartbreak Hotel” over the years, including Willie Nelson, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and of course, Lynn Anderson.

Though not many female singers have covered “Heartbreak Hotel. Anderson definitely set the bar high for anyone who wants to in the future.

It was clear that the “Rose Garden” singer was engaged in the song from the start of the performance. She started clapping and stomping along to the beat.

Anderson delivered a distinctly country version of the song. The crowd absolutely loved it!

She fed off of the crowd’s energy and couldn’t wipe the smile off her face as she sang. By the time she belted out the final, long note at the end, the crowd’s excitement was at an all-time high.

Anderson died on July 30, 2015, at the age of 67. But her legacy lives on through videos of performances like this one.
