Man Shot In Leg At Route 91 Finds Strength To Stand While Meeting President Trump

Thomas Gunderson/Facebook

On Sunday, October 1, a 64-year-old gunman began spraying bullets at 22,000 country music fans at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas.

Thomas Gunderson was one of the over 500 people injured during the attack. He was shot in the leg and in the hospital recovering when President Trump and the First Lady came to visit the survivors, first responders, doctors, and nurses.

As you can see in the video, Gunderson is sitting in his bed as we awaits President Trump’s arrival. When Melania Trump turns the corner to shake his hand, she tells him, “Don’t get up,” knowing of his injuries. You can hear her ask him how he’s feeling when the president walks in.

Gunderson stood up to shake his hand, and never thought twice about it, despite his injury.

Gunderson documented the moment on Facebook saying, “I will never lie down when the President of this great country comes to shake my hand! There may be plenty of issues in this country but I will always respect my country, my president and my flag. Shot in the leg or not, I will stand to show my President the respect he deserves!”

The video, at press time, has been viewed over 22 million times with over 82,000 comments.
