Miranda Lambert’s ‘Mama’s Broken Heart’ Gets Jazzy Remake You Never Knew You Needed

We didn’t think we could like Miranda Lambert’s hit song “Mama’s Broken Heart” any more than we already do, but that was before we heard this version.

Country star Kacey Musgraves has made a career out of singing and writing music her way, and we love her so much for it. Most people don’t know this, but Musgraves actually co-wrote the Lambert hit with fellow songwriters Shane McAnally an Brandy Clark.

While Lambert’s original is a hit, we love what Musgraves did with her version – adding a cello and upright bass to make it jazz-inspired. She shared a video on Instagram from her rehearsal on Wednesday (March 23) singing the song that did so much for her career, which is certified Platinum and peaked at No. 2 on the country charts.

She was likely prepping for her show at the Toyota Texas Music Revolution in Plano, Texas over the weekend. Following that concert she will be performing at the Merle Haggard tribute concert, Sing Me Back Home: The Music of Merle Haggard, An All-Star Concert Celebration on the one-year anniversary of his death, April 6.

Take a listen to her version of “Mama’s Broken Heart” below.
