Missy Robertson and her family have always loved giving back. They have travelled around the world working with orphanages in multiple countries by spreading God’s word, and helping in the classrooms.
On her last mission trip, which was to the Dominican Republic, Missy was in a classroom with the principal of the school and her assistant. They berated, insulted, and laughed at three of the orphans.
“It broke my heart,” Missy wrote in her blog. “I found it impossible to stop my flow of tears as I rode away from the school.”
She was riding with a Dominican man who had grown up in the same conditions as these young children. He looked at her and said, “Miss Missy, this is normal behavior here. I was talked to like that my whole life“.
When she heard that, she wanted to march back into that school and give the principal and her assistant a piece of her mind! She was reminded of a few bible verses, which calmed her nerves and stopped her from giving the women “a good tongue-lashing”.
“This goes against everything in our human nature,” she writes. “We want justice to be served immediately and when it isn’t fast enough for us, we are irritated, impatient and sometimes moved to irrational behavior.“
Have y’all ever felt like Missy did? Want to jump in and act on something because it upsets you? We sure have.
