The Unstoppable Trio

“If You See Him/If You See Her” was McEntire’s first collaboration with Brooks & Dunn. The song tells the tale of two mournful lovers who are each speaking to a mutual friend of theirs.

They both tell their friend that if they ever come across their lover, to please let them know how much they still love them.

The powerful ballad struck a chord with audiences, and reached the top of the Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart exactly two months after its release.

Its success prompted McEntire and Brooks & Dunn to reunite ten years later for “Cowgirls Don’t Cry,” which reached the second spot on the chart.

Where It All Began

But the beginning of their collaborative relationship all started at the ACM Awards in 1998. With millions of people watching at home, McEntire and Brooks & Dunn took to the stage to perform. “If You See Him/If You See Her” made its debut that night, and everyone was instantly hooked.

Seated at a piano, Kix Brooks was already on stage when McEntire made her entrance. Gliding through the fog that enveloped the stage, McEntire looked and sounded like a dream as she sang her opening verse of the song.

Ronnie Dunn joined in a little later, giving everyone goosebumps as he passionately hit a high note during one of the song’s most vulnerable moments. In addition to playing piano, Brooks backed up Dunn by singing harmony vocals with him.

The moment that Dunn and McEntire finally started singing together can only be described as magical. By the time they concluded the song, we have no doubt that everyone watching was spellbound by what they heard.

Clearly that was the case, because “If You See Him/If You See Her” become a major hit, and McEntire and Brooks & Dunn are still performing together today! Take a look back at where it all started by watching their flawless debut of their first duet in the video below.

There’s no stopping these three!
