Reggae and country music? Probably two things you thought would never go together, and yet, here we are. One of the biggest names in reggae, Beres Hammond, gave George Jones‘ iconic “He Stopped Loving Her Today” an island makeover for a mind-blowing end result.

Hammond’s cover came about as part of the album “Reggae’s Gone Country” featuring the vocal stylings of various reggae artists paying tribute to classic country artists. The album was released back in 2011 and was met to rave reviews, averaging a four star rating on Amazon.

The Grammy-nominated singer maintains the true essence of Jones’ treasured song while still managing to put his own twist on the song. While Hammond’s version of “He Stopped Loving Her Today” sounds more upbeat in the musical aspect of the song, he portrays the immense emotion of the lyrics through his passionate delivery.

Hammond, age 61, grew up in Jamaica and has experienced a successful career in reggae music putting out a compiled 19 studio albums.
