Roy Clark Rocks ‘The Donny & Marie Show’ With Epic ‘Foggy Mountain Breakdown’

The Donny & Marie Show went country when rival variety show star Roy Clark crashed Donny and Marie Osmond’s party, bringing some that signature Hee Haw charm with him. 

“You country boys call each other ‘good ole boys’ right?” Donny asked Clark, before continuing, “You wouldn’t call Marie a good ole boy would ya?”

“I ain’t that country! I’d call Marie every night!” said Clark to a blushing Marie.

“That’s funnier than a pig on roller skates!” joked Donny.

Confused by her brother’s strange out of character response, Marie asked Donny why he was talking like that, Donny explaining he was just trying to make Roy feel at home by talking “country.” 

To make Clark even feel more at home, Donny and Marie invited him to jam out to some bluegrass music. Donny and Marie invited their siblings and legendary flamenco guitarist Charo to join them for a rocking rendition of iconic “Foggy Mountain Breakdown.”

Written by Earl Scruggs and recorded in 1940 by bluegrass artists Flatt & Scruggs and the Foggy Mountain Boys, “Foggy Mountain Breakdown” went on to earn a status of timelessness, earning a Grammy decades later in 2002 following a televised performance of the song on the Late Show with David Letterman featuring Steve Martin.
