School Choir Sings “I’m Gonna Love You Through It” To Teacher Fighting Breast Cancer

Get the tissues ready. This is a truly emotional and touching moment between Staten Island’s PS22 Chorus and their beloved teacher, Mrs. Lopez.

Mrs. Lopez was diagnosed with breast cancer shortly before this video was filmed and as a way of giving back and supporting her, the elementary school choir sang Martina McBride‘s heartbreaking song “I’m Gonna Love You Through It.”

The moment the kids start singing, Mrs. Lopez is in tears, and rightfully so. The song is about a woman battling breast cancer, so the lyrics hit her extremely hard.

The camera panned through the choir of kids, and you can see how passionately they are singing – some with closed eyes and fists.

They changed a few lyrics to be more appropriate to this certain situation and when they sang it, Mrs. Lopez broke down even more.  When they sang, “She said ‘I don’t think I can do this anymore,’ But we raise our voice in song and said, ‘That’s what our love is for’,” they simultaneously raised pink flowers in the air.

If you don’t have the chills when the choir sings the first chorus, you will by the time they sing it a cappella right after the changed lyric. This song is so powerful and all of our emotions come to the surface watching this.

Many people have been wondering how Mrs. Lopez is doing in the years since this 2015 video was posted. Luckily, the chorus director, Gregg Breinberg recently gave everyone an update on his Facebook page.

So grateful for all of the continued outpouring of love, support and concern for my dear friend! Rest assured Mrs. Lopez is doing wonderfully, over three years cancer-free, and remains an inspiration to us all.” he wrote.
