One soldier has been hailed a hero after he exited his jeep mid-downpour to salute a fellow soldier that had been killed in action.

The moment was captured by an awestruck driver who witnessed the incredible moment. While on a Kentucky road, the soldier took notice of the funeral procession and immediately stepped out of his vehicle into the rain.

Standing at attention, the man paid his respects to the fallen individual despite the weather conditions and halted vehicles nearby. Uploading an emotional photo of the incident, witness Erin Hester wrote on Facebook,

“I was so completely touched by this today. A funeral procession was passing by and this soldier got out of his jeep to stand at attention in the pouring rain. I always get frustrated when I see cars that don’t pull to the side and stop for a procession, but this gentlemen went above and beyond. I feel pretty confident that there isn’t a military rule that soldiers have to do this. This made my heart happy to see the amount of respect that this gentleman showed a family that he doesn’t even know.”

In Kentucky, state law explains “a vehicle in a funeral procession has the right-of-way at an intersection and may proceed through the intersection if the procession is led by an escort vehicle displaying flashing yellow, red, or blue lights.”

Aside from the legal obligation, this gentleman addressed his moral obligation to pay his respects to his fellow soldier, sending the Internet into a melting pot of heartwarming words of praise as readers admire his camaraderie and respect.
