Southern Rock Fan Shows How To Play Lynyrd Skynyrd’s ‘I Got The Same Old Blues’

Lynyrd Skynyrd has never been a band to do many cover songs, but they’ve recorded a handful over the years. They clearly have a great deal of respect for J.J. Cale, because they’ve covered two of his tunes.

Those two songs were “Call Me the Breeze” and “I Got the Same Old Blues.” The latter was released in 1976 off of Skynyrd’s album Gimme Back My Bullets, and featured guitarist Allen Collins on the rhythm guitar part.

Many Skynyrd fans have wished that they could learn how to rock out to “I Got the Same Old Blues” just like Allen did years ago. Well if you’re one of those people, you’re in luck, because we found someone who can teach you how to do just that.

Tom Saguto is a dedicated Southern rock fan with a notable set of skills. Unlike other fans, Tom doesn’t just cover Skynyrd’s songs to entertain, he does it to teach. He has numerous tutorials on his YouTube channel, where he breaks down the parts to some of Skynyrd’s popular songs.

One of Tom’s recent lessons covered Allen’s rhythm guitar part in “I Got the Same Old Blues.” In under seven minutes, Tom managed to break down the whole part into easy-to-digest pieces that anyone can pick up on.

Tom keeps close to the camera for most of the lesson, that way you can pay close attention to his fingers and the notes that he plays. He also slows down the pace so you can take the time to really focus on the fingerings.

If you want to learn how to play like Allen did in “I Got the Same Old Blues,” then Tom’s video is a good place to start. Check it out below!
