David Frizzell & ‘Voice’ Star Mary Sarah Dazzle With “You’re The Reason God Made Oklahoma”
on Nov 09, 2021
The beloved 80s country hitmaker joined forces with a tremendously talented singer who is known for stealing America’s heart during her run on The Voice in 2016.
David Frizzell is a name as synonymous with country music as is the Grand Ole Opry. He is the younger brother of the late country icon, Lefty Frizzell, and is famous for his own reign across the country music charts – often accompanied by the illustrious Shelly West. In fact, Frizzell’s very first #1 country music hit was his duet with West titled “You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma.”
Shelly West retired in the early 1990s and David Frizzell has continued to write and record music in the decades since. In 2012, he and West collaborated on a few shows in Branson Missouri, and appeared as special guests on several awards shows in the early 2000s.
After Mary Sarah’s rise to stardom in 2016 working with Blake Shelton on The Voice, she continued to work on her music and made her Grand Ole Opry debut that same year. She’s performed several times at the Opry since then.
In early 2021, for the 40th anniversary of “You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma,” David Frizzell announced that he and Mary Sarah had collaborated on a commemorative new recording of the beloved duet.
“I am so beyond honored and excited to be a part of such a classic and iconic song,” Mary Sarah said in a press release at the time. “It’s honestly crazy how things come full circle in life. I have sung ‘You’re The Reason God Made Oklahoma’ since I was a little girl with my dad and did I ever think that there would be a day where I would get to pay tribute and sing it with David Frizzell himself?! Not at all.”
“So, this is so very big for me and I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed remaking it!!. Thank you to David and Shelly for creating such an amazing song and allowing me to be a small part in sharing it with the world.”
Now, in a very special acoustic performance at the Country Rebel Ranch, David Frizzell and Mary Sarah sing this iconic duet – and it’s been captured in full HD.
