Near the beginning of her wildly successful music career, the all around talented Reba McEntire took the country world by storm with her hit single “Little Rock.” Released in 1986 as the second single from her album Whoever’s in New England, the critically acclaimed song quickly established itself as an instant classic.

Regarded as a “cheery cheating song” by music critic William Ruhlmann, “Little Rock” tells the story of a woman who is lured into a marriage by a wealthy man hypnotized by “the finer things” but becomes disillusioned when she recognizes the absence of real love between her and her husband.

“Oh little rock, think I’m gonna have to slip you off,” sings Reba. “Take a chance and untie the knot, there’s more to life than what I got.”

The song stormed the charts hitting No.1 on U.S Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart as well as No.2 on the Canadian Country Tracks chart. The success of “Little Rock” helped Reba achieve her first gold album before it eventually went on to be certified platinum.
