Lynyrd Skynyrd on MV YouTube

Few bands have a history that can match Lynyrd Skynyrd‘s. The group has been around for decades, and as a result, they’ve had the chance to perform at some pretty iconic venues.

One well-known venue forever attached to Skynyrd’s name is the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco, California. A former ice skating rink, Winterland welcomed major stars such as The Rolling Stones and The Doors.

Skynyrd performed at Winterland twice, once in 1975 and again in 1976. While the venue has since been demolished, it will always be a part of Skynyrd’s extensive history.

Thanks to film footage, we are able to relive Skynyrd’s Winterland performances that took place so many years ago. The clips from the Winterland shows are some of the best sources we have to remember the members of the pre-crash lineup of the band.

Skynyrd included a good mix of new and old material in their setlists for both shows. When it came time to perform at the 1976 concert, the group just knew that had to revive “Gimme Three Steps,” a rowdy tune from their debut album.

The group’s performance of “Gimme Three Steps” was one high-energy showcase of Southern rock at its best. Each member of the group got the chance to shine, from keyboardist Billy Powell to bass player Leon Wilkeson. Lead singer Ronnie Van Zant kept the quick pace going with his enthusiastic performance.

What else can we say, all of the elements combined to make this a performance worth remembering! Tune in below to enjoy it. This is a clip you may want to watch more than once!
