On Monday (Jan. 9), daytime talk show host Wendy Williams televised her first live show since returning from holiday break and she recapped everything in the pop culture world she had missed while she was gone.

One of those stories was Carrie Underwood revealing that the extent of the injuries she suffered from her fall in early November was more extensive that she first let on. We had always known about her broken wrist, which required surgery, but just recently, Underwood revealed that she also required 40-50 facial stitches.

She wrote a letter to her fan club saying, “It’s crazy how a freak random accident can change your life. In addition to breaking my wrist, I somehow managed to injure my face as well. I’ll spare you the gruesome details, but when I came out of surgery the night of my fall, the doctor told Mike that he had put between 40-50 stitches in…I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different.

Williams always starts her show off with a “Hot Topics” segment talking about the biggest stories and giving her take on them, and she offered an opinion on Underwood’s fall and absence from the public eye.

“Did you hear about [Carrie Underwood]? I really don’t know a whole bunch about it, but she allegedly fell down a bunch of steps at her house, broke her wrist. She released on Twitter that we may not recognize her when it’s all said and done. I don’t know what that means… an excuse for a face lift,” she said

Fans immediately took to Underwood’s defense on Twitter.

Williams seemed to quickly backtrack by saying, “We’re cynical, but…she was already cute! So I don’t know what she’s doing, or what had happened.”

After an awkward silence, she asked her audience, “And if you’re home by yourself, how long do you stay there? Who’s going to save you? The dog?

Underwood and her team have yet to respond to the accusations, but it seems she may not have to since her fans came to her defense so quickly.
