As one of Randy Travis‘ dearest friends, no one was surprised when Tanya Tucker signed up to participate in the tribute concert in his honor. Tucker was one of dozens of artists that paid tribute to Travis at the concert, which took place in February 2017.
Many of the artists who took to the stage honored Travis with his own songs. Josh Turner delivered a touching rendition of “Three Wooden Crosses,” while Garth Brooks took the lead on “Forever and Ever, Amen.”
As for Tucker, she sang Travis’ heartbreaking hit, “I Told You So.” The song reached number one on the charts, and quickly earned a place in country music history.
In 2007, Carrie Underwood made a nod to Travis with her own rendition of “I Told You So.” The two of them eventually recorded a duet version of the song, which was a crossover hit.
Considering how much “I Told You So” means to Travis’ fans, Tucker had a lot to live up to when it came to her performance. But as a country legend herself, everyone knew that Tucker would do the song justice.
The Country Note captured a short clip of Tucker singing during the tribute concert and shared it on Twitter. Her voice filled with passion, Tucker put forth an emotional performance that surely had the crowd in tears.
