15-Year-Old ‘Voice’ Standout Breaks Down During Performance Dedicated To Late Father

At the end of this performance, there was no one prouder of 15-year-old Voice contestant Aliyah Moulden than her coach, Blake Shelton

Giving her a standing ovation for more than one reason, Shelton applauded Aliyah, who sang the heartbreaking song “Jealous” by UK singer-songwriter Labrinth.

In her package before the performance, Aliyah revealed to the audience that her father passed away when she was just one month old, so she doesn’t have any memories of him. Her older siblings, however, do. They keep his spirit alive by telling stories about their experiences with him, but Aliyah never got the chance to do that.

She was visibly emotional throughout the entire performance, but completely broke down into tears when she sang the lyrics, “You’re happy without me”.

The camera panned to Aliyah’s mother in the audience, who was wiping away tears. Host Carson Daly comforted the young singer with a hug and told her, “You were awesome — that was awesome. Tremendous. He would be so proud.”

“I literally could not be more proud of you right now,” Shelton told Aliyah. “You did what you knew you needed to do, you did what I asked you to do, you sang that song to and about your dad. And you got lost in the moment and that’s all anybody can ever expect an artist to do, is to get up there and pour their heart out on the stage. I think we all cried with you. Congratulations sis.”

Aliyah sang “Jealous” with grace, poise, and strength. Knowing just how hard the song hits home for her, it’s incredible that she didn’t break down earlier in the song.
