October 23, 2014, was a sad day for Reba McEntire. Her beloved father Clark, who was a three-time rodeo champion, passed away on that day at the age of 86.

Her father’s death struck Reba hard, and she struggled to find the best way to say goodbye. She was listening to songs for her upcoming album at the time, which is when she heard “Just Like Them Horses.” Instantly, Reba knew it would be the perfect song to play at her father’s funeral, and she ended up recording the song for her album.

2014 was also a sad year for a teenager named Caterina Birett. As she shared during a talent show, that was the year her grandfather was diagnosed with stage four stomach cancer. She said they were all shocked when he suddenly passed away mere months after learning about his diagnosis.

Just as Reba felt connected to “Just Like Them Horses” because of her father’s death, Caterina said she always thinks of her grandfather when she hears it. That’s why she decided to dedicate her performance of the song to him.

Caterina ended up delivering a beautiful rendition of Reba’s emotional song. She warned the crowd beforehand that it was a bit of a tearjerker, and we couldn’t come up with a more accurate description ourselves. The combination of the mournful lyrics, Caterina’s angelic voice, and knowing her personal story made for a moving performance we’re sure no one in the audience will forget any time soon.

We feel like Reba would be so honored to have her song done in such a heartfelt way. And we have no doubt that Caterina’s grandfather is looking down on her with pride.

Watch this teen’s stunning performance in the video below, and don’t be surprised if you find yourself with tears in your eyes.
