Texas-based country singer Charlie Robison tells a hilarious tale of a man who winds up on the Mexican border on New Year’s Day with outlaw country tune.
Robision tells the unexpected story of a man who wakes up with “50 dollars” in his pocket on January 1st before deciding to take a trip down to Camino Espinoza, inevitably making the decision to stay down there and just “live on steak and refried beans.”
“It’s ‘New Year’s Day’ here on the border
And it’s always been this way
I never do the things, I oughta
I think I’ll stay, it’s ‘New Year’s Day’.”
The 53-year-old country singer released “New Year’s Day” off his 2004 album Good Times, the album hitting number 52 on the Billboard‘s country albums chart.
After signing with Columbia records, Robison landed a gig as a judge on the first season of Nashville Star back in 2013. However, five years after the release of Good Times, Robison made the decision to move away from country music in favor of Southern hard rock.
