Tim McGraw Opens Up About His Painful Childhood

Known widely for his fierce dedication to his family, many are surprised to find out the painful reality that was Tim McGraw‘s childhood. The country singer sat down with The Washington Times to discuss the journey of his painful past and how it led him to become the man he is today.

“I have always been very family-oriented,” McGraw shared according to The Washington Times. “I came from a dysfunctional, broken family growing up, and it’s probably instilled in me the need and the want to have a strong family and a great foundation. So, I think that is something that I naturally gravitate toward.”

McGraw and wife Faith Hill have raised three daughters together and have fought hard to instill strong family values in their lives, jumping at any opportunity to participate in family-friendly projects such as the 2017 faith-driven film The Shack, which McGraw starred in. Hill and McGraw also had a duet on the film’s soundtrack called “Keep Your Eyes On Me.”

The film tells the story of a family rocked by tragedy when their youngest daughter is abducted while on a family vacation, and evidence leading towards her murder was found in a small shack in the woods. Some time later, the grieving father receives a letter form God inviting him to spend the weekend at the infamous shack, leading him on a emotional journey of redemption and forgiveness.

“I don’t think you learn as much about yourself when you are moving forwards as when you have fallen backwards,” McGraw continued. “That’s when you really learn who you are. And reach for the things that have propelled you forward and made you a better person.”

As a father to three daughters, the film was no doubt an emotional journey for the country singer to take part in. You can watch the trailer for The Shack below.
