Tim McGraw felt a strong connection to his song, “Humble and Kind,” from the start. Talented Nashville songwriter Lori McKenna wrote it, and although McGraw had no part in its creation, it related to him perfectly.
The song is told from the perspective of a parent offering advice to their children. Most of all, the parent wants their children to remember to always be “humble and kind” as they go off on their own into the world.
When McGraw was recording the song, he couldn’t help but get a bit emotional as he thought about his three daughters, Gracie, Maggie, and Audrey. At the time, Gracie was off to her first year of college and Maggie was entering her senior year of high school. McGraw’s deep connection to the song resulted in a heartfelt delivery that gave it a deep level of emotion.
Country fans fell in love with the song when it was released, and it has since been certified gold. When the CMAs announced the nominees for its upcoming awards ceremony in November, it made sure to recognize McGraw and “Humble and Kind.” The song was nominated for Single and Song of the Year, Music Video of the Year, and McGraw was also nominated for Male Vocalist of the Year.
To celebrate his CMA nominations, McGraw’s girls made him a sweet gift, which he shared a photo of on Facebook. The gift was actually a delicious cake with chocolate frosting, and McGraw said his girls wrote CMA on the cake with chocolate chips.
Of course, you can’t tell that from the photo McGraw shared, since the cake was nearly half of the way gone! It seems that he liked his gift, because he said it didn’t last long at all.
How sweet of McGraw’s girls to make such a cute treat for him. Congratulations to McGraw and McKenna on the CMA nominations!
