Trace Adkins Reveals The Reason Why He Just Had To Record ‘Just Fishin”

It is one of Trace Adkins‘ biggest hits of all time, and is a song he holds close to his heart. Called, “Just Fishin’,” the sweet tune about the relationship between a father and his daughter peaked at the sixth spot on the Billboard country charts. 

For Adkins, he was easily able to connect to the song since he is a father to five daughters. His youngest daughter, Trinity, actually appeared in the music video for “Just Fishin’,” which was directed by notable music video director Trey Fanjoy.

Although he relates well to the song, Adkins didn’t write “Just Fishin’.” That credit goes to Casey Beathard, Monty Criswell, and Ed Hill. In a clip he shared on his official YouTube channel about his first impression of the song, Adkins said that as soon as he heard it he knew that Beathard has his own daughter in mind.

“He knows how to just write ’em and just point ’em straight at me and hit me right,” Adkins said.

Going on to explain how much the song means to him personally, Adkins said he knew once he heard “Just Fishin'” that it had to be his:

“This was just one of those songs. I’ve fished with all my daughters. I just had to record it. Love the song…I just think it’s a wonderfully written song.”

One of the co-writers of “Just Fishin’,” Monty Criswell, helped pen Adkins’ latest single, “Lit.” Although not as emotional as “Just Fishin’,” “Lit” also celebrates the bond between family members…like grandpas who fish with dynamite and grandmas who get really excited about playing Bingo.
