Trace Can’t Help But Smile While Chatting About The ‘Fun’ Track On ‘Something’s Going On’

Trace Adkins‘ new album Something’s Going On has a little bit of something for everybody. There’s love songs, reflective tunes, and as to be expected from Adkins, a few rowdy songs for good measure.
The standout “fun” track on Something’s Going On is one that Adkins’ diehard fans have been familiar with for a while. Titled “Lit,” Adkins previously released the song long before Something’s Going On ever had a release date or title.
“Lit” is a song that you just can’t help but tap your toe along to. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if it has prompted country fans around the world to get up and start dancing. We’re not exaggerating here, it’s just that catchy!
Monty Criswell, Derek George, and Mickey Jack Cones served as the writers on “Lit,” and managed to craft a tune that captured Adkins’ attention right away. As he revealed in his Story Behind the Song series on his YouTube channel, Adkins felt an instant attraction to “Lit.” He said it is “just a smokin’ track, and a lot of fun to do.“
Adkins explained that he’s worked with Criswell a lot in the past, and that the two of them have collaborated on other tracks. But it was Cones who first played “Lit” for him, and Adkins was hooked.
“It was just one that Mickey played for me, and [he said], ‘Just look, listen to this, Monty and I wrote this.’ I’m glad that he played that for me,” he recalled.
