Trace Cyrus Opens Up About Starring In His Dad’s Emotional Music Video For ‘Somebody Said A Prayer’

In 2008, Billy Ray Cyrus enlisted the help of his eldest son, Trace, to bring his music video for “Somebody Said A Prayer” to life.

The emotional music video tells the story of a mother of three and her oldest son, who are dealing with the death of her husband, and his father.

The video takes place after the funeral, when guests are over at their house, paying their respects. While walking through the house filled with mourners, her youngest son goes upstairs to find the eldest son with alcohol and drugs, contemplating suicide.

After the little brother also sees his mom crying and his sister extremely upset, he kneels at his bed, like he did with his dad, and prays for his family. His prayers eventually bring the family back together and they share a very hopeful moment together.

For the role, Trace changed quite a bit to his appearance. Normally covered in tattoos and piercings, the Metro Station rocker changed it up a bit for the video.

“I tried to cover up my tattoos more in this, tried to look a little younger,” he said. “A little different style, a collared shirt I had on in a couple of the shots, yeah, a little more different than how I am now. I took out all my piercings and stuff for this.”

Of the finished product, Billy Ray couldn’t be more proud of his son.

“What impressed me the most is, he said, ‘I think this might touch somebody’s life and possibly even save a life,’ by him being the messenger in this video”

When asked about a possible collaboration, Trace entertained the idea.

“I think it would be very interesting. Me and my dad have been talking about doing a song for a while. I think it’s time it happens,” he said.

Although two of his siblings will be featured on Billy Ray’s upcoming album, Thin Line, that doesn’t mean there won’t be a collaboration in the future. His siblings Miley and Braison each have a song with their dad on the album, out September 9th.

If you preorder the album here on iTunes or here on Amazon, you will receive an instant download of “Tulsa Time” featuring Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry and “Hey Elvis” featuring legendary rocker Glenn Hughes.
