Trace Opens Up About Powerful Real-Life Emotions Behind Songs On New Album

After years of hard work, Trace Adkins finally has a new album ready for his fans. Although it has been nearly four years since the release of his last record, Adkins says he was in no rush to put something together.

We just took our time and did the record we wanted to do,” Adkins told Taste of Country. “I was just able to put together a collection of songs that are representative of where I’ve been in my head for the last two or three years.

One of those songs is his new single, “Watered Down.” The song is narrated by a man who’s lived a few wild days in his lifetime. Even though things are slowing down for him now that he’s older, the man recognizes that there’s still a bit of that spark in him.

Adkins released an accompanying music video for the song on March 27. The video captures the song’s concept of slowing things down, as Adkins completes simple tasks on the farm and goes out for a cup of coffee.

While Adkins felt a strong connection to “Watered Down,” it wasn’t the song that moved him the most off of his new album, which is titled Something’s Going On. While recording the tracks “Whippoorwills and Freight Trains” and “If Only You Were Lonely,” Adkins admits that he broke down in tears:

“That very, very rarely ever happens to me. That emotion, that deep spot somewhere where it came from and [I] just had to stop and just compose myself…it’s really cool when a song moves you like that.”

After hearing Adkins talk so highly about those two songs, we’re sure y’all can’t wait to hear them and the rest of the material on Something’s Going On!
