Few songs in rock history are more iconic than Lynyrd Skynyrd‘s “Simple Man.” While “Free Bird” and “Sweet Home Alabama” are technically more popular in terms of download numbers, no Skynyrd song seems to resonate with people quite like “Simple Man.”

Since “Simple Man” is such a classic, many Skynyrd fans have offered their own take on the tune. We’ve seen everything from young teens singing it to people rocking out to it on their instrument of choice.

But in the swarm of “Simple Man” covers that exist, we’ve never seen one quite like this.

In March 2015, Gary Brown and his friend Vinnie sat down in their living room and ended up cranking out one impressive “Simple Man” cover. The two decided to go acoustic for their cover, with Gary playing guitar and Vinnie pounding out some serious beats on a cajon drum.

Gary was also in charge of singing the tune, and let us say, he did a pretty good job. His voice has a stunning sense of rawness to it, much like Skynyrd’s late lead singer Ronnie Van Zant.

This is the kind of stuff we love to see from Skynyrd fans, and music fans in general. Since “Simple Man” is so timeless, we have a feeling that people like Gary and Vinnie will be singing and playing it for years to come.

Go ahead and tune in below to watch these two friends tackle their “Simple Man” jam. If you’d like to see more from them, you can check out Gary’s YouTube channel here
