As two of the biggest stars to ever grace country music, Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson have worked together many times. Most memorably, they performed along with Kenny Rogers during a televised special in 1989 called Kenny, Dolly and Willie: Something Inside So Strong.
The two have maintained a close friendship throughout the years. That’s one of the many reasons why Parton was incredibly honored to receive the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2016 CMAs.
“This is such a great compliment,” she said. “This is a wonderful, wonderful night for me so thank you for all of that.“
Parton had another big reason to celebrate on Thursday (January 19)…because it was her 71st birthday! Millions of fans sent Parton their birthday wishes on social media throughout the day. Nelson jumped on the train as well, and wished his old friend a happy birthday in the best way possible.
While hanging out with Southern Living, Nelson decided to sing Parton a little birthday ditty. He broke out into the birthday song, singing sweetly with a smile on his face.
Always the comedian, Nelson decided to put a humorous twist on the end of his song. “And many more…and don’t forget to shut the bathroom door.“
