A young singer with a dazzling country twang breaks hearts with a spot-on rendition of Reba McEntire‘s sorrowful tune, “The Greatest Man I Never Knew.”
Backed by a full band, 18-year-old Lindsey Smith delivered her rendition of the heartbreaking country ballad, surely bringing tears to the eyes of everyone in the audience. While the young country singer maintains a flawless hold of the song throughout the entire performance, it’s at the song’s bridge when she executes a powerful delivery of those iconic heartbreaking lyrics that you come to realize just how talented she is.
“The Greatest Man I Never Knew” tells the sorrowful tale of a woman who never really knew her father, losing the opportunity to ever do so following his untimely death. Unlike most memorial songs, the song doesn’t have a sympathetic tone. But rather a critical one, the narrator pointing out at the end of song her father never told her he loved her.
The country ballad was featured off McEntire’s 1992 album, For My Broken Heart. The song was highly well received and went on to reach No.3 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart.
