In the entire history of country music, few female artists have been able to match the success experienced by Reba McEntire. After more than four decades, McEntire has 40 number one singles, 16 number one albums, and has sold more than 85 million albums around the world.

McEntire made her debut in 1977 with her self-titled album. She managed to chart three singles off of that album, and her success continued to grow with each additional release.

It was McEntire’s fifth studio album Unlimited that helped her score her biggest hit up to that point when she released her single “I’m Not That Lonely Yet.” The song soared all the way to the third spot on the U.S. country chart and was also a major hit in Canada.

The success of “I’m Not Lonely Yet” led McEntire to her first number one hit. Its followup single, “Can’t Even Get the Blues” claimed the chart’s top spot, as did its followup, “You’re the First Time I Thought About Leaving.”

While “I’m Not That Lonely Yet” never reached number one, it remains one of the biggest and most important singles of McEntire’s career. If it wasn’t for the success of that one song, who knows how much attention its followup singles would have received?

Watching McEntire perform “I’m Not That Lonely Yet” live, it’s no wonder why it went on to become a major hit. We recently uncovered some undated footage of a young McEntire singing the song, and it’s quite a treat to watch.

Wearing a red shirt with Western detail and a ruffled purple skirt, McEntire took complete control of the stage. She smiled and interacted with the audience, showing off her signature sense of charm.

McEntire sounded like an angel as she sang, hitting the high notes with precision and power. Looking back on this, it’s clear why she’s now regarded as a country music icon!

Go ahead and enjoy a major blast from the past when you watch McEntire perform “I’m Not That Lonely Yet” in the clip below. What a treasure!
