Firecracker Cherries
on Jul 04, 2020
Happy Independence Day! We’ve been busy preparing for a holiday cookout that will include grilled chicken, brats, garden fresh veggies and all the required sides like potato salad, baked beans, cucumber salad and more. But, it seems like every year we struggle with deciding on a patriotic dessert that is tasty and not time-consuming.
To accompany our kid-requested homemade ice cream and peach cobbler, we decided to make one of our favorite trusty recipes that is not only 4th of July appropriate, but something we make for nearly every holiday because we can switch up the colors accordingly…..Firecracker Cherries aka Boozy Cherry Bombs!
You’ve most likely seen these bite-sized beauties all over social media, and there’s a good reason for that. You can’t eat just one! You can use either maraschino cherries from a jar (our preference) or fresh cherries from the produce aisle. Just make sure they are pitted and washed if you use fresh.
Just soak the cherries in Fireball whisky (Jim Beam or Bacardi are great too!), drain, then dip in white chocolate and blue sanding sugar. The result is a red, white and blue treat that is delicious and beautifully patriotic.

FIRECRACKER CHERRIES
INGREDIENTS
1 – 10 oz. jar maraschino cherries, drained or 1 pound fresh cherries, pitted and washed
2/3 cup Fireball Whisky
1 cup white chocolate chips (or candy melts)
Blue sanding sugar
INSTRUCTIONS
Place prepared cherries in a medium bowl and stir in Fireball. Cover and place in the refrigerator to soak for at least 1 hour. Soak overnight for best results. Drain cherries and gently pat dry with a paper towel. Set aside the alcohol to drink later.
Melt white chocolate chips in a microwave in 20 second intervals, stirring well often until melted.
Line a baking sheet with waxed paper or parchment paper. Dip each cherry two-thirds of the way into the melted white chocolate. Immediately dip cherry in blue sanding sugar, going halfway up the white chocolate coating. Place on prepared baking sheet. Place in refrigerator and chill until ready to serve. ENJOY!
