Brandon Blackstock, ex-husband of Kelly Clarkson, passed away on August 7, 2025, after a three-year battle with melanoma, a deadly form of skin cancer.
Fans knew Blackstock, 48, as the ex-husband of American Idol champ Kelly Clarkson, and the stepson of Reba McEntire, who was married to Brandon’s dad, Narvel Blackstock, for 26 years. But there were many details about Brandon’s life that people may not know.

Following Brandon Blackstock’s death, his obituary was published by Axelson Funeral Home in Butte, Montana. Blackstock spent his final days at his home in Butte, where he moved in 2022 following his divorce from Kelly Clarkson.

1. Brandon Blackstock was born in Fort Worth, Texas, and spent most of his childhood there before moving to Big Piney, Wyoming, where he attended high school. When he moved to Montana a few years ago, it was to live “Brandon found his way back to the mountains and “the cowboy way of life he always wanted to live.”
2. Brandon spent more than twenty years working as a talent agent in Nashville and played “important roles in shaping the careers of many larger-than-life celebrities and left a lasting impact on everyone who met him … Many industry insiders have Brandon Blackstock to thank for their opportunities.”
3. Brandon was in a relationship with Brittney Marie Jones, his “beautiful and loving partner in life and business.” According to her LinkedIn, Jones worked as Kelly Clarkson’s production assistant from 2016 to 2018. In December 2018, she took on an executive management assistant role for Blackstock while still managing “day to day artist schedules” for Clarkson.
In 2020, the same year Kelly filed for divorce from Blackstock, Jones became the executive assistant for Blackstock’s Montana ranch, V Bar B Cattle Co.
4. Together with Brittney, Brandon founded the Headwaters Livestock Auction and The Valley View Rodeo in Bozeman, Montana. The rodeo was founded in 2023 and offers professionals and amateurs the opportunity to compete.
The auction “provides a common meeting place for ranchers, buyers, community members and their families to make a living, build camaraderie, and keep the livestock industry alive and thriving,” according to their website.
5. Blackstock was noted as hardworking, honest, loyal, “a man’s man and a true gentleman.”
6. Brandon’s children, Savannah, Seth, River, and Remy, mattered more to him than anything and will “always be his greatest love and his greatest legacy.”
7. He had three grandchildren: Lake, Julie, and LouCasey (who is on the way). His grandchildren called him “Pa.”
8. Blackstock’s obituary notes that he was preceded in death by Clark and Jacqueline McEntire, the parents of his stepmom, Reba McEntire. This inclusion is a testament to Brandon’s relationship with Reba, even after she and his father divorced.
