Bruce Willis’ Eldest Daughter Thanks Fans For Support After Revealing His Diagnosis

On March 31, Bruce Willis’ daughters, his ex-wife Demi Moore, and his wife Emma revealed that he has been diagnosed with aphasia. Because of this, the Die Hard and Pulp Fiction star “is stepping away” from his acting career:

“…as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities,” read part of the statement. “As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him…We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him. As Bruce always says, ‘Live it up’ and together we plan to do just that.”

The Mayo Clinic describes aphasia as “a condition that affects your ability to communicate.” The condition “can affect your speech, as well as the way you write and understand both spoken and written language.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, “Aphasia typically occurs suddenly after a stroke or a head injury. But it can also come on gradually from a slow-growing brain tumor or a disease that causes progressive, permanent damage.” It is unclear what happened in Willis’ case.

A day after revealing her father’s diagnosis, Bruce’s daughter Scout thanked everyone for all of their support. She said, “The exquisite outpouring of love that I am experiencing right now is just blowing me away. Thank you all for showing up with so much tenderness and stunning love for my daddio and my whole family.”

Bruce’s eldest daughter, Rumer, also spoke up to thank people for showing so much love to her dad right now:

“Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for all of the messages, all of the prayers, for keeping my poppa and our whole family in your thoughts and prayers,” Rumer said in a video she shared on social media. “It truly means the world.“

She went on to express how grateful her family is for all of the kind messages they’ve received:

“Thank you all for all the sweet messages about my dad. I truly appreciate it more than you know,” she said. “It means so much, and please know that, even if I don’t get to respond to all of the messages, that they are felt. They are heard. They are seen. And unbelievably and deeply appreciated from, not just me, but our entire family. Truly.”
