Emma Heming Willis Shares Heartfelt Update On Bruce Willis’ Health

Actor Bruce Willis’ wife, Emma, shared an emotional update on the actor’s difficult health journey.

“Bruce is still very mobile. Bruce is in really great health overall, you know,” Heming Willis told ABC News’ Diane Sawyer. “It’s just his brain that is failing him.”

Willis was first diagnosed with aphasia, a condition affecting his ability to communicate, in the spring of 2022.

In February 2023, his family confirmed that his condition had progressed to frontotemporal dementia, a more specific and serious form of cognitive decline, forcing him to retire from acting.

“The language is going, and, you know, we’ve learned to adapt,” she said. “And we have a way of communicating with him, which is just a different way.”

Despite the challenges, Emma says she and her family, including the couple’s 11- and 13-year-old daughters, still catch glimpses of Bruce’s personality.

“Not days, but we get moments,” she shared. “It’s his laugh, right? Like, he has such, like, a hearty laugh. And, you know, sometimes you’ll see that twinkle in his eye, or that smirk, and, you know, I just get, like, transported.”

Emma Heming Willis Shares Her Mission to Support Caregivers

Emma has become a powerful advocate in the world of dementia awareness since Bruce’s diagnosis, raising funds and community support for FTD research and resources.

In March of 2023, she attended AFTD’s Hope Rising Benefit in New York City, a gala that raised money in support of the organization’s work to support those affected by the disease.

The experience also compelled the 49-year-old, a model and entrepreneur, to step forward as an advocate for caregivers and push for greater support for families of those living with conditions like dementia.

She hopes her upcoming book on caregiving, set for release on September 9, will serve as a guide and road map for others navigating similar journeys.

“Caring for yourself while caring for someone else is one of the hardest, most heartbreaking challenges you’ll ever face. It’s easy to lose your sense of self. Through my own experience and insights from leading experts, I want to help care partners feel less alone, better prepared, and empowered to navigate this journey with strength and support,” she shares of the book on her website.

Emma Shares Sweet Photos For Father’s Day

Emma shared a post on Father’s Day earlier this year, sharing how Bruce’s diagnosis has drastically changed their family’s life.

“Happy Father’s Day to all the dads living with disability or disease, showing up in the ways they can and to the children who show up for them,” Emma posted on her social media.

“What Bruce teaches our girls goes far beyond words. Resilience, unconditional love, and the quiet strength in simply being present. This photo says so much. Love deepens. It adapts. It stays, even when everything else changes.”
