Bunnie XO Recently Shared That She Decided To Drink Again After 7 Years Of Sobriety
Bunnie XO is responding to the backlash after she shared that she decided to drink again following years of sobriety.
Last month, Bunnie XO and her husband, country star Jelly Roll, visited Rome, Italy, while he was on the European leg of his Big Ass Stadium Tour with Post Malone.
While there, the couple decided to let loose and visit a nightclub. Bunnie shared a video of that evening, showing her and her husband singing, dancing, and having fun with others around them.
In the clips, Bunnie also revealed that she chose to drink alcohol while in Rome, which surprised some people since she had been very open about her sobriety.
She had originally stopped drinking back in 2018.
In the comments of the video, Bunnie defended her choice to have a few drinks after fans asked about it.
She explained that she didn’t stop drinking because it was a problem, but because it was what she needed for her mental health at the time.
“Before anyone can say another ‘I thought you were sober’ comment. Yes I’m sober, I stopped drinking in 2018 bc my mental health couldn’t handle the hangovers the next day,” she wrote.
She continued, “If I want to let my hair down w/ my husband and have a drink in Rome — I will. BEST NIGHT EVERRRRRRR.”
Bunnie XO Addresses Claims That She “Fell Off The Wagon”
Even though Bunnie explained why she decided to drink that night, the moment quickly drew a lot of attention, with fans sharing mixed feelings and concern about her breaking her sobriety.
On a recent episode of her Dumb Blonde podcast, she talked about it again, explaining her view on the choice.
“I think a lot of people think that I was an alcoholic in my former life” she said.
Bunnie added that she “never had a problem with alcohol.” So, when she and Jelly Roll were out having a blast in Rome, the moment felt right to enjoy a drink for the first time again.
“Everybody has their own idea of what sobriety is, and I respect that. I got sober because of my health, my mental health, and because I didnt want drugs and I didn’t want alcohol in my body anymore.
She also made it clear that for anyone really struggling with addiction, she does not recommend trying to drink again like she did.
“I am self-aware enough to know that I do have a huge platform, and that I do influence people to do certain things, and that is not one of them. I don’t want you to ever ruin your sobriety because you see me drinking.”
Bunnie then stressed that just because she chose to have alcohol again, it doesn’t mean she plans to start drinking every day or “fall off the wagon.”
“I think a lot of people need to realize that my journey is not their journey. And all of our journeys are different.”
She added that the only reason she mentioned she drank in the first place was because transparency with her fans is really important to her.
“I’m never going to mislead and pretend I’m something that I’m not.”
