The songs on Carly Pearce‘s latest album 29: Written in Stone, have touched many hearts. One of her most impactful songs is “Never Wanted to Be That Girl,” which she recorded with Ashley McBryde.

“Never Wanted to Be That Girl” won the ACM Award for Music Event of the Year. Pearce and McBryde also performed the song live during the ceremony.

Pearce and McBryde take on the roles of two women who find themselves in love with the same man. But he has played them both, making them feel heartbroken and used.

The song resonated with two women who attended one of Pearce’s recent shows. Pearce noticed a small cardboard sign in the crowd that read, “We’ve dated the same guy for two years! You saved us!!!

Pearce posed for a photo with the two women, and shared it on social media. She said:

…I kept seeing a girl flashing a cardboard sign at me, but I couldn’t read it from stage. I finally stopped the show & asked her what it said…I immediately asked them to come down front so I could meet them & hug them. They told me ‘Never Wanted to be That Girl’ has been their saving grace. Goodness, the power of music…I know they felt understood through my record, but I sure felt like I wasn’t alone with my journey last night because of them.”

At a different show just a few days later, Carly spotted another sign that made her emotional.

The sign was cut in the shape of a heart, and read, “Can’t keep our reigning Female Vocalist down!!” Pearce is the reigning Female Vocalist of the Year winner at both the CMA and ACM Awards.

Pearce couldn’t control her tears when she saw this sign at her show. She shared a photo of it on social media, saying:

This sign made me cry. Ugh. I love y’all. I love country music. I love this life. I can’t believe what this sign says is actually real.”
