Carrie Underwood Explains Why Her Face Looks The Same After More Than 40 Stitches

TODAY Show/NBC

Carrie Underwood fans are delighted that she is back after a five month hiatus. The singer took a nasty fall in November that left her with a broken wrist and severe injuries to her mouth that required more than 40 stitches. The months-long wait seemed like an eternity to her faithful following who were concerned after she posted a cryptic letter to them on New Year’s Eve with a warning that she may not look the same when she returns to the spotlight.

“…When I am ready to get in front of a camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different. I’m hoping that, by then, the differences are minimal, but, again, I just don’t know how it’s all going to end up,” Carrie wrote at the time.

When she finally made her triumphant return to the stage during the 2018 AMC Awards in April, the reaction was one of confusion as Carrie looked almost exactly the same as she did before her accident. It left fans wondering about the true extent of her injuries, but the “Something In The Water” singer has a good explanation.

During a recent interview with the TODAY Show‘s Hoda Kotb, Underwood shared that the initial injury “just wasn’t pretty” but that she feels more and more like herself every day. When Kotb commented that Underwood looked the same as she did before her injury, Underwood replied,  “I have a dedicated team of professionals who can spackle and paint and paste,” implying that there are scars to hide.

The 35-year old singer eluded to scars around her mouth and nose during an interview with Bobby Bones following her ACM Awards show performance.  “I was worried [my son] might be scared of me. But now if I put makeup on, he’s like, ‘Mommy, your boo-boo’s all gone,'” Carrie told Bobby.

The public may never truly know the full extent of Carrie Underwood’s injuries and her recovery process, but one thing is for sure….she is as beautiful as ever and we’re thrilled that she is back! September will mark the release of Carrie Underwood’s 6th studio album, Cry Pretty. She released the title track as its first single in April. Check it out in the video below.
