Carrie Underwood stunned viewers who tuned in to the 2022 CMT Music Awards with her soaring performance of her then-new single, “Ghost Story.” Toward the end of the song, Underwood lifted herself over the stage in a set of aerial silks.

Underwood performed a series of acrobatic stunts all while singing the final few lines of “Ghost Story.”

The CMT Music Awards performance was filmed at the Resorts World Las Vegas. Underwood has an ongoing residency at the resort, called Reflection.

You can tell Underwood’s official music video for “Ghost Story” was heavily influenced by her time spent in Vegas. She released the brand-new music video in April 2022 after teasing it on social media.

The video perfectly plays into the song’s story. Underwood plays the part of a performer who soars high above the stage on a swing covered with flowers. She blows kisses at the crowd as she receives an overwhelming amount of applause.

But she’s gone in a flash, and we see just one person in the crowd…the man who let her go.

As the video continues, Underwood’s former lover tries his best to forget her. But every place and everything reminds him of her. He sees her everywhere he goes, even when he tries to sleep.

This plays into the song’s chorus, as Underwood sings, “I’ll be haunting you. You’ll be wanting me. I’m gonna be, your ghost story.

Underwood wears a series of stunning outfits in the video, including a denim ensemble. This is a reference to the title of her album Denim & Rhinestones, which was released on June 10, 2022.
