Carrie Underwood Performs ‘Cry Pretty’ At Opry For First Time
on Jul 30, 2018 • Updated Sep 17, 2019
Days before the 2018 ACM Awards in April, Carrie Underwood released her first solo single since 2016’s “Dirty Laundry.” Titled “Cry Pretty,” the song was co-written by Underwood, Hillary Lindsey, Liz Rose, and Lori McKenna.
“Cry Pretty” became an instant phenomenon, with fans praising its lyrical quality and Underwood’s performance. The song places her in the highest extent of her range, as she belts out notes that still leave fans going “wow” even months after its release.
But as good as the recorded version of “Cry Pretty” is, nothing is more impressive than watching Underwood perform it live. Her most notable performance was probably during the 2018 ACM Awards, which marked the first time she sang the song live.
A month to the date after “Cry Pretty” was released, Underwood celebrated another major moment in her career. On May 11, Underwood appeared at the Grand Ole Opry to mark her 10th anniversary as a member of the prestigious organization.
Of course, it only made sense for Underwood to mark the occasion by performing her new hit single “Cry Pretty.” Like her previous live performances of the song, Underwood’s Opry performance of “Cry Pretty” generated great praise from all who watched.
Those who were unable to attend Underwood’s Opry anniversary show got the chance to watch a sample of her “Cry Pretty” performance when fragments of it were included in a video celebrating her accomplishment.
That video was released in early June, nearly a month after Underwood’s performance took place. At that point, fans were already anxious to see footage from her “Cry Pretty” performance. So when her Opry anniversary celebration video teased that performance, fans started begging to see the whole thing.
Just when it seemed like all hope was lost that the Opry would release Underwood’s “Cry Pretty” performance in full, they finally did so on Friday (July 27), over two months later.
Although you had to wait a while to see it, the video of Underwood singing “Cry Pretty” at the Opry was well worth the wait. You’ll see what we mean when you watch the long-awaited footage from her performance in the clip below.
We feel like this may be one of Underwood’s best performances of “Cry Pretty” to date!
