on Sep 11, 2024
Marking its 10-year milestone, The Charlie Daniels Journey Home Project continues its mission of supporting American veterans and first responders.
The late Charlie Daniels, a true country legend, founded The Charlie Daniels Journey Home Project in 2014.
About The Journey Home Project
This nonprofit organization aims to support U.S. military veterans and first responders, focusing on their return, rehabilitation, and reintegration into civilian life.
Over the past decade, the project has:
- Raised approximately $4 million for the cause
- Formed partnerships with various veteran advocacy organizations nationwide
- Expanded its reach and impact, even after Daniels’ passing in July 2020

David Corlew, Daniels’ longtime manager and current president of the Journey Home Project, believes the late musician would be proud of how the team and his wife, Hazel Daniels, have continued his work.
During an interview with Fox News Digital, Corlew, who worked alongside Daniels for nearly five decades until his passing, reflected on the project’s growth.
“I think he would be proud that we were able to continue the mission and have broadened it to where we have more time, more individuals who want to help.”
Corlew noted that he believes Daniels is “spiritually a part of this.”
“It’s his influence and his love for the veteran community and first responder community, and just being a great patriot, that’s the reason we’re here,” Corlew said. “For no other reason but Charlie’s vision.”

2024 Journey Home Project Ceremony
To honor those who exemplify the project’s mission, the Journey Home team established the annual Charlie Daniels Patriot Awards. This year, the awards will be held on September 11th instead of its usual October date. Corlew noted that this change carries special significance in commemorating those who have served.
This year’s ceremony will recognize:
– Broadcaster Storme Warren
– Former NYPD commissioner Bernie Kerick
– Tom Higgins, head of general services at Fiserv Incorporated
– The Vigianos, a three-generation family of first responders from Long Island, New York
How To Help And Donate
As the organization moves into its second decade, Corlew emphasizes the ongoing need for veteran and first responder support in the United States. He encourages people to donate to the Journey Home Project or spread awareness about available resources for veterans and first responders.
“There’s an enormous need in the United States of America for veterans and first responders,” he said. “Supporting our veterans is a nonpartisan issue, and I hope our country will continue to try and work in that direction.”
