Thousands Gather For Charlie Kirk’s Memorial Service
On Sunday, September 21, nearly 90,000 people gathered at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, for a memorial service honoring conservative commentator and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
People from across the country traveled to attend the public service. State Farm Stadium, which holds about 70,000, was filled to capacity.
Fox reported that nearly 10,000 more gathered at the nearby Desert Diamond Arena, with another 10,000 watching from a designated viewing arena close by.
The memorial service drew one of the largest crowds ever gathered for a private citizen.
It was held 11 days after Kirk was assassinated on Wednesday, September 10, when he was shot with a single bullet during a speaking event that took place at Utah Valley University.
The suspect in Kirk’s murder, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was arrested two days later. On September 17, he was charged with seven counts, including aggravated murder and felony discharge of a firearm.
Friends, Family, and Government Officials Took The Stage To Share Words During Kirk’s Memorial
Kirk’s memorial lasted about five hours, with those close to him sharing speeches about his legacy. There were also musical performances in his honor.
Those who performed throughout the day include Christian artists Brandon Lake, Chris Tomlin, and Phil Wickham. Lee Greenwood also sang his hit “God Bless the U.S.A.” during the celebration of life.
A few of those who spoke to the thousands in attendance included staff members from Turning Point, Vice President JD Vance, and President Donald Trump. Trump delivered the closing remarks at Kirk’s service.
One of the most emotional moments for many at the service came from Kirk’s widow, Erika. She took the stage to deliver a nearly 30-minute eulogy for her husband.
During her speech, Erika surprised those who were watching when she revealed that she had forgiven her husband’s killer.
“That man, that young man, I forgive him,” she said through tears. “I forgive him because it was what Christ did and it is what Charlie would do.”
Her words brought the full stadium to its feet in a standing ovation.
