Chris Is A Seasoned Awards Show Pro By Now
By now, Chris Stapleton is a go-to artist to book for all country awards shows.
That’s why it’s so hard to believe that his breakthrough moment happened just a little over 3 years ago, when he performed with Justin Timberlake during the 2015 CMA Awards.
Stapleton walked home with a ton of trophies that night as well, and the awards have kept rolling in as the years have flown by. He’s also pretty well-decorated with ACM Awards, having a total of seven wins and several more nominations to his name.
In 2019, Stapleton was up for four ACM Awards, including the coveted Entertainer of the Year trophy.

In addition to being one of the night’s most-nominated artists, Stapleton was also booked as one of the performers. The ACM slowly revealed the names of artists performing at the 2019 ceremony, with Stapleton being one of the first confirmed acts.
Other performers revealed at the same time included Miranda Lambert, Dierks Bentley, and George Strait.

A Special Someone Was In The Audience…
Stapleton has a history of performing unexpected tracks at awards shows, not always relying on whatever his current single may be. So fans were rightfully curious to know what the superstar singer would be performing when he made his way on stage during the ACM Awards.
The news was revealed shortly before the ceremony, when The Tennessean confirmed that Stapleton would be singing “A Simple Song,” a track off of his 2017 album From a Room: Volume 2. The song was co-written by Stapleton and a special someone in his life…his father-in-law Darrell Hayes.

Darrell got the chance to watch Chris perform the song from the ACM audience, resulting in an emotional moment between son-in-law and father-in-law. Although there were millions of people watching, in that moment, we’re sure Stapleton and his father-in-law were completely unaware of that.
Love @ChrisStapleton sooo much! #realcountrymusic #ACMawards
