The Success of Chris Stapleton’s Debut Album

Chris Stapleton’s No.1 album Traveller is still a fan favorite nearly ten years after it was released.

Traveller debuted in 2015 as Stapleton’s first studio album.

Released through Mercury Records and produced by David Cobb, Traveller was a major breakthrough for Stapleton. In the year it debuted, the album received multiple nominations and won the CMA Award for Album of the Year.

After a highly praised performance of his track “Tennessee Whiskey” during the CMA Awards, where he performed a duet with Justin Timberlake, Traveller soared to the No. 1 spot on the US Billboard 200 chart.

The album also went on to earn a nomination at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards, where Stapleton won the Grammy for Best Country Album.

Stapleton wrote 12 of the 14 songs on Traveller. In a 2015 interview with Billboard, he gave insight into how the album came together.

“I lost my dad in October 2013 and did a little bit of soul-searching,” Stapleton said. “My wife was kind enough to buy me an old Jeep. We flew out to Phoenix and drove it all the way back to Nashville through the desert. I thought a lot about music and my dad, and the things that he would have liked that I should be doing. Out of that, I actually wrote the song ‘Traveller’ driving down Interstate 40 through New Mexico. That became the cornerstone for the record and wound up being the title track.”

“Traveller” Remains on the Billboard Top Country Albums Chart for Nearly a Decade

Stapleton has seen incredible success with his debut album, so much so that it still remains on music charts even a decade later. Recently, Traveller officially reached 500 weeks on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, a milestone only surpassed by one other country artist. Willie Nelson’s 1978 album Stardust holds the record with 551 weeks on the chart.

Congratulations on the amazing achievement Chris Stapleton!
