From the start, country music and gospel have often intersected, with country values and tradition often including a sincere love for Christ.

With that in mind, several Christian artists have been working with the country sound to communicate their messages of faith for an audience that is already inclined to listen.

Entering the fold with his stab at the country music genre is Forrest Frank, whose upbeat country-infused song “2 STEP THE ENEMY” was released on July 10, and will have listeners warding off temptation while moving to the beat.

Forrest Frank, who is known for his work in the band Surfaces as well as for his solo chart-topping Christian music, recently won the 2025 Dove Awards for Artist of the Year and Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year for his “YOUR WAY’S BETTER.”

Now, hot off the heels of the success of “YOUR WAY’S BETTER” and “LEMONADE,” both of which were on his 2025 deluxe album CHILD OF GOD II (BACK TO BACK), Forrest is beginning to release music that is expected to be included on his next major studio album.

Titled THE JESUS GENERATION, the upcoming album is not expected to be released until December of this year, but Forrest is showing off his range with his latest single.

Released on July 10, “2 STEP THE ENEMY” is a country song with witty lyrics and a strong message on Christian joy.

Playing with country music’s bad habit of songs about drinking, Forrest uses the “cup runneth over” imagery from Psalm 23, cleverly singing in the chorus:

“Yeah the only spirit I need is the Holy One / I don’t need Jack from Daniels / ‘Cause the Spirit’s living in me / And He’s moving through my feet all night long / My cup gon’ run.”

Recorded with LOST & FOUND and ZVC, Forrest’s sound is still here, but with a rhythmic acoustic guitar — akin to the sound Shaboozey has popularized with songs like “Amen,” featuring Jelly Roll.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper Forrest Frank release without some dancing, so here’s a video of Forrest getting down to the beat of “2 STEP THE ENEMY:”

Frank’s song comes as Christian artist Brandon Lake is also seeing success with country music.

Brandon, who has been dabbling in country music with releases like “When A Cowboy Prays,” has also been working on collaborating with some of the biggest names in country music, including Lainey Wilson, Cody Johnson, Jelly Roll, Bailey Zimmerman, and more.
