Every year, CMT chooses a handful of country stars to honor at their annual CMT Artists of the Year event who have made an impact on the genre, and this year they selected Carrie Underwood, Dan + Shay, Thomas Rhett, Kane Brown, Luke Combs, Ashley McBryde, and Reba McEntire.

McEntire received the prestigious Artist of a Lifetime Award, while McBryde receives the inaugural Breakout Artist award.

Each artist performed for the audience, and the live telecast, on Wednesday night (Oct. 16). Combs is on tour and had a show in Bozeman, Montana the same night, so he wasn’t able to attend the event. He thanked everyone for the honor via a video message taken right before he went on stage.
