Miranda Lambert And Parker McCollum Host Benefit Concert For Texas Flood Relief Efforts

In July, catastrophic flooding tore through the Texas Hill Country, resulting in the deaths of 135 people. Amid the tragedy, country artists, many of them native Texans, jumped into action to host benefit concerts to help fund relief efforts.

Pat Green, who lost his brother, sister-in-law, and two nephews in the flood, hosted a benefit that raised over a million dollars.

“The King of Country,” George Strait, hosted an intimate benefit show that raised $6.25 million for relief efforts. The lineup featured acts such as Riley Green, Randy Houser, and Jamey Johnson, and Garth Brooks made a surprise appearance.

Texas natives Miranda Lambert and Parker McCollum hosted their “Band Together Texas” benefit concert on Sunday (August 17). In addition to Lambert and McCollum, the lineup included Cody Johnson, Ronnie Dunn, Lukas Nelson, Lyle Lovett, Ryan Bingham, and more.

Kelly Clarkson was initially slated to perform during the benefit. Sadly, she made the decision to drop out following the death of her ex-husband and the father of her children, Brandon Blackstock.

Cody Johnson Leaves Everyone In Awe After Singing “How Great Thou Art” During “Band Together Texas”

One of the most powerful moments during the “Band Together Texas” show came when Cody Johnson took to the stage. The singer addressed the packed crowd at Austin’s Moody Center, saying:

“I just know that, in hard times and in good times, I know that God has a plan.”

Johnson shared he was talking to a friend on the phone earlier that day about some problems in the friend’s life. He recalled telling him:

“Sometimes God’s plan for us, we think it sucks, but it’s still God’s plan. As long as we keep the faith in him, there’s a lot of comfort, and there’s a lot of peace, and there’s a lot of understanding that we don’t understand, that he has and we don’t. None of us in this room are perfect, but there’s nothing wrong with giving it to Him and letting Him mend it, and letting Him fix it and show you where the next chapter is.”

Johnson explained that’s why he chose to perform the hymn “How Great Thou Art” at the “Band Together Texas” concert that day. He delivered a stripped-back performance of the song, with his strong voice soaring through the arena.

The crowd was left in awe of Johnson’s chill-inducing performance. They threw their hands in the air in worship as he sang.

If you didn’t get the chance to see Johnson’s performance in person, you’re in luck. The entire benefit concert was livestreamed on YouTube.
