Hosted once again by Luke Bryan and Super Bowl champion Peyton Manning, this year’s CMA Awards have been quite the show already. While there are many great performers set to take the stage at the awards show, fans couldn’t wait to hear Cody Johnson perform his new song, “The Painter.”
Cody Johnson has been on fire this year with his Grammy win for Song of the Year, a CMT Music Award, a nomination for Male Vocalist of the Year at the 2023 CMA Awards, and the release of his new album titled Leather. This well-rounded album stays true to the roots of country music and makes classic country fans proud. While this album is packed full of beautiful songs and collaborations, none of them top “The Painter.”
“The Painter” is a heartfelt tribute to his wife, Brandi, the woman he called “the motor behind a lot of this.”
“My favorite lyric in ‘The Painter’ is ‘for every wall I built, she saw a canvas.’ If there’s anything that describes my marriage with my wife, Brandi, it’s that line. And that’s why we’ve been together for 15 years,” Cody said.“I hope my fans are encouraged to take the time to appreciate the people they have around them. The ones who make their life beautiful and bring all the beautiful colors to their world when it could just be black and white and dark. Remember them and tell them you love them.”
The singer never fails to captivate the audience with his simple style and rugged vocals—this performance was no exception. Cody Johnson took the stage wearing his signature starched blue jeans and a button up with his white hat. His wife watched from the crowd as he sang and a giant mural of her appeared to paint itself behind him.
From the time he stepped out on the stage until he walked off, the audience was soaking up every second!
