Country Singer Conner Smith Involved In Vehicle Accident That Claimed The Life Of A Pedestrian
On Sunday, June 8th, rising country star Conner Smith was driving a Chevrolet Silverado north on 3rd Avenue North in Nashville when he struck a 77-year-old pedestrian in a crosswalk. The woman, later identified as Dorothy Dobbins, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and died of her injuries.
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department revealed more details about the incident in a statement, which read:
“The preliminary contributing factor for this crash appears to be Smith failing to yield the right of way to the pedestrian. He showed no signs of impairment.“
Charges Confirmed Following Fatal Traffic Incident
In the following weeks, it remained unclear if charges would be issued in this case. On Thursday, July 10, Smith’s attorney, Worrick G Robinson IV, confirmed that the singer had been charged with a misdemeanor for “Failure to Yield the Right of Way Resulting in Death.”
The charge is a Class A misdemeanor, and Smith will appear for booking on the citation on August 7th. The attorney’s statement read:
“Conner is incredibly grateful to the MNPD for their time and efforts to carefully investigate this tragic accident and has continued to cooperate at all times. His thoughts remain with Ms. Dobbins’ family, and he remains committed to honoring her memory with compassion by supporting efforts to improve pedestrian safety and help prevent future tragedies.”
According to sources cited by Billboard, multiple signs have been installed at the accident scene, and a tree obstructing the view of the crosswalk has since been removed.

Conner Smith Speaks Out For The First Time
One month later, the singer has broken his silence. In a new statement shared online, Conner Smith expresses immense grief over the tragic incident. He writes:
“Not a day has gone by that I haven’t grieved, prayed, and mourned for Ms. Dobbins and her family. My heart is broken in a way I’ve never experienced, and I still struggle to fully process the weight of it all.”
The 24-year-old canceled multiple shows following the accident and has yet to return to the stage. He writes:
“I have always found that making music and playing shows is a place of healing for me – but for this moment, it was important for me to take time away.”
Smith concludes:
“I am thankful to serve a God who is near to the brokenhearted, and I have leaned on him every step of the way. Through tragedy, I have learned that God is more faithful than I could have ever known before.”
