Country Music Hall Of Fame Names 2026 Class Of Honorees
on Mar 20, 2026

What Are The Requirements To Be Inducted Into The Country Music Hall Of Fame?
The Country Music Hall of Fame inducted its first class in 1961. That class included Jimmie Rodgers, Fred Rose, and Hank Williams.
Last year (2025), the 156th, 157th, and 158th honorees joined the Hall’s prestigious ranks: Tony Brown, June Carter Cash, and Kenny Chesney.
Now, it’s time to welcome a new class of inductees into this storied institution.
The Country Music Hall of Fame typically only inducts three individuals (or duos/groups) per year. Inductees have to meet a certain set of requirements that filter them into one of three categories.
According to the Hall’s website, those categories are:
- Rotating Category – As the name implies, this category rotates every year. The artist who qualifies for induction in this category is either a Recording and/or Touring Musician, a Songwriter, or a Non-Performer. 2025 inductee Tony Brown was honored as a Non-Performer. Whoever is inducted into this category in 2026 will be a Songwriter.
- Modern Era – An artist becomes eligible for induction through the Modern Era category 20 years “after they first achieved national prominence.” Kenny Chesney was the Modern Era inductee in 2025. Anyone who achieved “national prominence” less than 20 years ago is not yet eligible for induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
- Veterans Era – An artist becomes eligible for induction through the Veterans Era category 45 years “after they first achieved national prominence.” June Carter Cash was the Veterans Era inductee in 2025.
It’s important to note that, to avoid sympathy votes, a candidate is not eligible for induction the year after their death. For example, Jeannie Seely, who shockingly is not a member of the Hall yet, can’t be inducted in 2026, since she passed away in 2025. She’ll be eligible for induction again in 2027.
However, an artist can be inducted within the year of their death if the votes were tallied before they died. That exact thing happened in 2024. Toby Keith died in February of that year. But he was still eligible for induction because voters chose him as the Modern Era inductee before he passed away.
Who Is Joining The Country Music Hall Of Fame In 2026?
Now that you know how artists qualify for induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame, let’s see who’s joining its ranks in 2026.
One by one, Hall of Fame member Marty Stuart introduced the 2026 class of honorees during a ceremony held in the HOF Rotunda on Friday, March 20.
Songwriter – Paul Overstreet

Although Paul Overstreet is also a singer, he’s best known for his songwriting. He’s penned some of country music’s most iconic tracks, including “Forever and Ever Amen,” “Deeper Than the Holler,” “Forever and Ever, Amen,” “When You Say Nothing At All,” “Same Ole Me,” and “A Long Line of Love.”
Overstreet got choked up while reflecting on the moment he learned he would be inducted into the Hall of Fame. It’s clear how much this honor means to him…
Veterans Era – The Stanley Brothers

At long last, the iconic bluegrass duo The Stanley Brothers will join the Country Music Hall of Fame. Formed by Ralph and Carter Stanley, the brothers were the true pioneers of country music. You’d be hard-pressed to find an artist who was influenced by their sound.
Carter tragically passed away in 1966 at the age of 41. Ralph continued performing until his own death in 2016 at the age of 89.
Ralph and Carter’s children appeared at the inductee announcement ceremony to offer their sincere thanks to everyone for honoring them.
Modern Era – Tim McGraw

After making his debut in the ’90s, Tim McGraw quickly established himself as one of country music’s leading stars. He’s since earned dozens of #1 hits, including “Humble and Kind,” “The Cowboy in Me,” “Live Like You Were Dying,” and “Real Good Man.” Some of those #1s were duets with his fellow country-singing wife, Faith Hill, including “It’s Your Love” and “Let’s Make Love.”
On top of that, McGraw has enjoyed a successful acting career, with roles in Friday Night Lights, Country Strong, and the Yellowstone prequel 1883.
McGraw fought back tears as he stood at the podium and expressed how much this honor means to him.
He thanked all of the important women in his life who have supported him through the years, including his grandmother, mother, sisters, daughters, and of course, Faith Hill.
“Everyone who knows me knows that I wouldn’t be standing here today if it weren’t for great women in my life,” he said. “From my grandmother, to my mom, my sisters, my daughters, and most of all, my wife…thank you baby. I would not be standing here today if it wasn’t for you, nor would I want to be. And, I can’t wait for the day when I’m sitting there, and you’re standing here.”
The honorees will officially be inducted into the Hall during a Medallion Ceremony later this year.
